LOT 61

This spot must be listed in numerous guide books because visitors from overseas seem to flock to it rather than stumble upon it. But before you class it as a tourist trap, know that this is the go-to for all the young artists and designers, as well as many of the younger residents. A small hole in the wall with a couple of tables and chairs on the pedestrianised road outside, it offers locally-roasted coffee sourced from around the world and a selection of cakes and treats that never disappoint.

KINGSWAY

With their ‘fit for royalty’ tagline, you can expect exceptional service and a variety of snacks and pastries to go with your cappuccino. Located on bustling Republic Street with plenty of outdoor seating options, it is positioned right at the heart of the city and is popular amongst the lawyers on their way to court, located just a stone’s throw away. It’s a great choice for brunch, with their signature ‘Knight’ and ‘Queen’ dishes being firm favourites.

KIR ROYAL

A little gem at the top of St Paul’s street run by a gentleman who lives and breathes what he does. This place is popular at peak times and has just a few stools and benches, so visiting mid-morning is recommended. With a variety of milk alternatives, a selection of sinful delights (try the rocky road) and savory snacks, this is the place you’ll be thrilled to have discovered.

CAFFE CORDINA

All roads lead to Cordina. Don’t worry about trying to find it; you just will. Located on one of the busiest and most beautiful squares in the city, right opposite the stunning National Library, there is no greater choice for a bit of people watching. The company was founded in 1837 and moved to its location in Valletta in 1944. The interior is wonderfully ostentatious with its marble floors, wooden bar and grand chandelier above the main door, and the outdoor seating area is plentiful and perfect to just sit and watch the world go by.
